Santorum Unfairly Stacks the Deck for 11/8 PAWS Hearing?
A government for the people, by the people. Yet Senator Santorum has failed to invite "the people" to his hearing.
The people I'm referring to are the not-so-silent majority of American dog owners and responsible breeders. They oppose Senator Santorum's bill. But he doesn't want them around to spoil his plans of shoving the PAWS bill down the throats of the American people.
Cut out of the legislative process..........
By "other people" - I mean the ones that weren't invited to the PAWS table the first place. Like the cat people, the rabbit people, the poultry people - not to mention the monkey people - and all the other animal fanciers that have been left out of the legislative process.
The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry has announced that its Subcommittee on Research, Nutrition and General Legislation will hold a hearing to discuss the Pet Animal Welfare Statute of 2005 (PAWS) on November 8, 2005.
That's not responsive government.
Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), the Subcommittee Chairman, will chair the hearing. And it seems that the only people on his invitation list are the people who will give PAWS what Rick wants most - the rubber stamp.
Just who is invited to Rick Santorum's "Rubber Stamp Party" for the PAWS bill ?????
The Rubber Stamp Party
The only ones invited to his hearing are the members of the Sentor's cheerleadering team - the AKC, HSUS * the AVMA - the supporters of PAWS - SB1139. We also hear PETA loves PAWS and Rick Santorum too - what's up with that?
Ole Rick has gotten mighty cozy with animal rights groups, like DDAL, and that we hear, just doesn't jive with conservative philosohy.
Is PETA On His Side? Republican Santorum Invites Animal Rights Groups HSUS & DDAL
As one tipster told DogPolitics.com.......
"The hearing will consist of two panels of witnesses, one representing Animal Interest Groups, on which the AKC has been invited to appear, and the other representing Animal Welfare Groups.
Chairman of the Board Ron Menaker will represent and testify on behalf of the AKC at the hearing. The complete witness list appears below:
Panel 1: Animal Interest Groups
- Witness 1: Ron Menaker, Chairman - American Kennel Club
- Witness 2: Dr. Henry E. Childers, President - American Veterinary Medical Association
- Witness 3: John E. Hoffman, Esq. - Dog Fancier ( a BIG contributor to the AKC ? - is he the same John E. Hoffman who is listed as a Millenium Founder of the AKC Canine Health Foundation in recognition of $25,000 to $49,999?)
Panel 2: Animal Welfare Groups (How is it that animal rights groups are now repackaged & remarketed as "animal welfare" groups?)
Witness 1: Wayne Pacelle, President & CEO - Humane Society of the
United States Witness 2: Sara Amundson, Legislative Director - Doris Day Animal
League Witness 3: Norma Worley, Director - Animal Welfare Program, Maine
Department of Agriculture
Does the AKC speak for all dog groups? Not. How about HSUS - hardly. And now we have the AMVA on board. That still leaves a whole lotta people out of the process. Are they speaking on behalf of the cat fanciers? Not. Poultry Fanciers? Not. Not even close.
So, Senator Santorum - please put your money where your mouth is.
Now - for all of you that didn't get an invitation to Rick's party - I suggest you call your congressional representatives..........ASk them why you weren't invited to give testimony and voice your objections on SB1139..........
Call your congressional rep toll-free: (800) 426-8073
and have them put your name on Rick Santorum's VIP list for PAWS party on 11/8 --ooops I mean SB 1139. And maybe you should get a VeriChip implant - that way you won't have to stand in line to get in.

Sorry you are wrong, John Hoffman is a CHAMPION Founder: There’s just 7 of them – and 3 are dead.

You need to call witnesses that live in the lower part and middle of the dog breeding business not just the BIG named people.
